Empowering Women in Peace building and Disaster Resilience
SWIDA Ghana acknowledges the vital role women play in fostering peace, security, and disaster resilience within communities. As key agents of change, women actively contribute to conflict prevention, resolution, and post-crisis recovery. However, cultural, economic, and structural barriers continue to limit their participation in decision-making processes. SWIDA Ghana is dedicated to dismantling these barriers by equipping women and girls with the necessary skills, resources, and platforms to lead in peacebuilding and disaster risk reduction.
Key Interventions by SWIDA Ghana
Women-Led Community Peace Dialogues
SWIDA Ghana has facilitated numerous peace dialogues in conflict-prone areas, positioning women as mediators and community mobilizers. These forums have been instrumental in resolving disputes related to land ownership, chieftaincy, and resource management.
Training on Conflict Resolution and Mediation
Through capacity-building programs, SWIDA Ghana has trained over 500 women and youth in conflict resolution, negotiation, and leadership, ensuring their active participation in peace processes at local and national levels.
Women’s Inclusion in Security Governance
Advocating for gender-responsive security policies, SWIDA Ghana collaborates with local authorities and security agencies to amplify women’s voices in security decision-making spaces.
Disaster Preparedness and Climate Resilience
Recognizing the disproportionate impact of disasters on women, SWIDA Ghana has implemented climate adaptation initiatives, including early warning systems, sustainable livelihood programs, and disaster response training for women-led groups. These efforts are supported by projects from the Global Fund for Women and the World Food Programme (WFP).
Commitment to Sustainable Peace and Security
Through these interventions, SWIDA Ghana continues to champion inclusive peacebuilding and disaster risk reduction efforts that recognize and elevate women’s leadership. Our approach ensures that women are not just beneficiaries but active contributors to sustainable peace, security, and resilience-building in Ghana. Key partners that have supported in these interventions are Coginta and WFP.
