Advancing Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Access
SWIDA Ghana is committed to improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in underserved communities across Northern Ghana. Operating in the Northern and Savannah regions, the organization implements impactful WASH interventions in districts such as Tamale, Sagnarigu, Savelugu, Nanton, Saboba, Zabzugu, Nanumba North, Kpandai, Mion, Yendi, and West Gonja.
Key Interventions:
Provision of Clean Water: Establishing and training Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) management boards, WATSAN committees, and school-based gender-sensitive WASH facilities.
Sanitation Infrastructure: Facilitating the construction and rehabilitation of household and institutional latrines, gender-friendly toilet facilities, and boreholes in rural communities and schools.
Hygiene Promotion: Conducting behavioral change campaigns on handwashing, menstrual hygiene management, and the prevention of waterborne diseases. Training school health prefects and communities on proper hygiene practices.
Capacity Building: Providing facility user education, handwashing facility installation at schools and households, and operation and management training for sustainable WASH solutions.
Strategic Partnerships for Sustainable Impact
SWIDA Ghana collaborates with government agencies, local assemblies, donor organizations, and international NGOs to scale up interventions and maximize impact. Key partners include World Vision International, SNV, Global Affairs Canada/Co-Water International, Global Communities, and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), alongside various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
